Tucson's only authentic Japanese gardens reopen for the Fall 2017 season on October 1 with a new permanent museum exhibition: "Mingei: Old Japan On Hand," highlighting the beauty of everyday utilitarian objects created of wood, bamboo, stone, ceramics, textiles, lacquer, and paper by nameless and unknown craftsmen. Like the early 20th-century Arts and Crafts movement in the US, the contemporaneous Mingei movement is responsible for keeping alive many Japanese traditions. Open 9:30-4:30 daily, except Mondays, Thanksgiving Day, Dec. 24, 25 & 31, and New Year's Day. Entrance is free with regular Gardens admission: $9 adults; Seniors (65+): $8; Students & Military (w/ID): $7; Children 3-15: $5; Children 2 and under: free. Reduced admission for groups of 10 or more with two week's advance notice of visit.
