Rudy Flores and Teresa Estrella started the Army Man Project in 2015. Using 3D scanning and 3D printing technology they wanted to showcase Tucsonans in the style of old school army man toys.

After a few test 3D prints using the 3D scans of a few locals they decided to turn this into a large scale community project. They began inviting friends and recommended participants to their downtown studio to do a 3D scan using a special camera. They wanted to give the participants an opportunity to pose and showcase something that is important to them.

The idea was to create a cultural army. Poses included chefs, artists, DJ's, athletes, musicians, cosplay and several others. Nearly 300 locals were scanned, printed and displayed at exhibits at Wee Gallery and The Mini Time Machine. Getting acquainted with the participants and representing all the amazing contributions they make to the community became their primary focus of this project.

Green Army Man is on display in the glass cases of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library from February 1-28 during regular library hours.
