Phoenix – Catholic Community Services and the IRS are currently to provide free tax help for the upcoming filing season. Free training will be provided and no experience is necessary. “The IRS works closely with key partners to provide free tax preparation to low-income families, seniors, disabled individuals, and limited-English speakers,” said IRS spokesman David Tucker II. “There is a role for anyone who is interested, anyone who wants to help and give back to the community.”

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax preparation to low-to-moderate income families. Volunteering can be exciting, educational and enjoyable. There are several good reasons to volunteer:

• No previous experience required,

• IRS provides free tax law training and necessary materials,

• Community Partners provide mentors for training purposes,

• Flexible volunteer hours,

• Various volunteer duty options, and

• It’s a great way to make new friends.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. In addition to preparing both federal and State of Arizona income tax returns, volunteers are needed to greet taxpayers and help organize their paperwork, manage tax sites and handle quality control, and assist with Spanish/English interpretation. We are also seeking volunteers who are willing to discuss the benefits of savings opportunities with taxpayers. It’s a great way to help families prepare for emergencies.

Free training is available online with classroom style training offered during December and January. Volunteer hours are flexible.
