The West-facing wall and windows of the Historic Picket Post House, also known as the ‘Castle on the Rocks,’ are all that most people have ever seen of the 7,000 square foot mansion -- and after a two-year hiatus, two special weekends January 12-13, and February 2-3, 2019 invite visitors to walk through the mansion, see magnificent views and hear history narrated by Arboretum staff and volunteers. The mansion was built by Colonel William B. Thompson in the 1920’s. For photos of the mansion visit https://www.facebook.com/pg/btarboretum/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10150172793733264 and https://video214.com/play/afsbGl2JgIu3gHaz5ReXYA/s/dark . Daily admission is required to enter the Arboretum grounds and walk the half-mile main trail to reach the mansion fate; mansion tour tickets cost an additional $20 to help raise funds for the Arboretum. Note: Dogs and other animals will not be allowed in the house. The mansion is not wheelchair accessible, and has stairs inside and outside.
