Emma Lydia Hayworth
Lived on the east coast. Had nine children with husband Charles Smith, three died at birth and two others died at young ages. Died of assumed Alzheimer's in a mental institution in 1929, age unknown.
Clarabel Smith Minarik
Daughter of Emma Lydia Hayworth and Charles Smith. Grew up on the East Coast and married Frank Stuyvesant Minarik. They lived in New York together until 1925 when they moved to Tucson for Frank's arthritis. Had three children together, one adopted two biological. Died of non-sedated shock treatments in a Phoenix sanitarium at the age of 46. It's now assumed she had Alzheimer's disease.
Frank Stuyvesant Minarik
Educated as a lawyer, worked as a real estate broker in Tucson. Died in Tucson at the age of 76.
Smith "Smitty" Minarik
Grew up in Tucson. Attended Tucson High School and graduated from Trinity University in Texas. Worked as a high school teacher in Tucson until he became ill. Died from complications of Alzheimer's disease at the age of 51.
Mary Kathlyn Hatch
Met her husband, Smith "Smitty" Minarik at Trinity University in Texas. Married at the age of 19 and moved to Tucson. Had three children. Now has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and lives on Tucson's east side. She is 76 years old.
Steven Edward Minarik
Grew up in Tucson, earned degrees from the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University. He met his wife, fellow teacher Sheryl Stephens Minarik in Tucson while they were practice teaching together. They had two children together. Steve taught in Tucson, South Korea and Prescott. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 43 and died at the age of 49.
Cheryl Lynn Minarik Baril
Grew up in Tucson and attended Northern Arizona University where she met her husband, Mark Baril. They settled in Tucson and had four children together. She now has three grandchildren, too. She is 55 years old and was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008, though the family says they have known since 2007.
Elizabeth Ann Minarik
Grew up in Tucson, graduated from the University of Arizona and worked as a teacher in Denver and Tucson. Diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 42 and died in 2014 at the age of 50.
C. Minarik
Has a 50-50 chance of having inherited the genetic mutation that causes Alzheimer's disease from his father. He is 19 years old.

Krista Baril Buelna

Has a 50-50 chance of having inherited the genetic mutation that causes Alzheimer's from her mother. She is 32 years old.

Grew up in Tucson, studies creative writing at the University of Arizona and has his own graphic design business. Has a 50-50 chance of having inherited the genetic mutation that causes Alzheimer's from his mother. He is 26 years old.
Kaila Baril
Grew up in Tucson, lives in Prescott and recently graduated from Northern Arizona University. Wants to have a career in the hospitality industry. Has a 50-50 chance of having inherited the genetic mutation that causes Alzheimer's disease from her mother. She is 23 years old.
Kyle Baril
Grew up in Tucson, graduated from North Park University in Illinois and works in sales and marketing in Tucson. Has a 50-50 chance of having inherited the genetic mutation that causes Alzheimer's from his mother. He is 29 years old.
The risk for the Buelna children is unknown because it's unknown
whether their mother inherited the mutation. If she did, her children
have a 50 percent chance of inheriting it, too. If their mother doesn't
have the mutation, then they don't either.
